This position is part of a unionized bargaining unit. The hourly wage for this position starts at $16.60 and is established in accordance with the collective agreement. Depending on a candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, and prior experience, a higher hourly wage may be offered. Any hourly wage offered for this role, whether starting or higher, will fall within the wage scale established for this position in accordance with the collective agreement.

Experience a rewarding role at Metro as a Seafood Clerk! You’ll be responsible for ensuring our seafood department is fresh, well-stocked, and inviting for customers. Share your knowledge and passion for quality seafood while helping customers make the best choices for their meals.

Our seafood team plays a vital role in Metro’s success, and we’re looking for enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with fresh products and providing exceptional customer service. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and care about food quality, we want you on our team!

What You’ll Do:

  • Unload and organize seafood shipments in the cooler and prep areas.
  • Stock counters and displays with fresh seafood, ensuring proper rotation and freshness.
  • Inspect seafood for quality and remove any items that do not meet standards.
  • Maintain proper storage conditions, including temperature and sanitation requirements.
  • Assist customers with product selection, cooking tips, and storage advice.
  • Answer customer inquiries and resolve concerns promptly.
  • Keep the seafood department clean and organized, including sanitizing work areas and tools.
  • Dispose of waste and follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory levels, perform counts, and report discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate labeling and pricing of all seafood products.
  • Update signage for promotions, sales, and seasonal items.
  • Reduce and price items as needed.
  • Follow safe handling procedures and report any safety concerns to management.
  • Assist with special promotions, events, or projects as assigned.
  • Collaborate with other departments when necessary.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to stock merchandise and create attractive displays.
  • Knowledge of seafood products and attention to detail.
  • Able to lift between 30 to 50 pounds.
  • Retail or food-handling experience is considered an asset.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time.

Must be available to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
