The typical salary range for this position is $69 840.00 - $96 030.00 annually. The base salary offered will be determined based on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity considerations.

This is a 19 month contract position

Summary

The Talent Acquisition Lead (Ontario) is responsible for leading and delivering a high-impact talent acquisition strategy that supports Ontario-based corporate, retail store, pharmacy, and distribution centre hiring needs. This role provides hands-on leadership to a team of Talent Acquisition Specialists supporting corporate functions, as well as a high-volume recruitment team responsible for filling critical frontline and operational roles at scale.
With a strong focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion, the incumbent will proactively build diverse talent pipelines, leverage external partnerships and community engagement, and continuously improve recruitment processes through data, technology, and best practices. This role plays a key part in ensuring Metro attracts, hires, and retains the talent needed to support business growth across Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition Strategy & Delivery

  • Define, implement, and continuously evolve an Ontario-focused talent acquisition strategy aligned with business priorities across stores, pharmacies, distribution centres, and corporate functions. 
  • Partner closely with business leaders and HR partners to understand workforce needs and translate them into proactive, scalable recruitment plans.
  • Build and maintain robust talent pipelines for current and future needs, with a strong emphasis on hard-to-fill and high-volume roles.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Talent Acquisition Specialists supporting corporate recruitment needs. Lead and support a high-volume recruitment team responsible for delivering timely, quality hiring results for store, pharmacy, and distribution centre roles.
  • Foster a results-driven, inclusive, and collaborative team culture focused on continuous improvement, accountability, and candidate experience. 
  • Set clear goals, monitor performance, and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities to ensure team effectiveness.

High-Volume & Operational Recruitment

  • Oversee end-to-end recruitment delivery for high-volume operational roles, ensuring speed, quality, and consistency of hiring outcomes. Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve recruiter efficiency, and leverage tools and technology to meet hiring demand. 
  • Ensure recruitment practices are compliant with employment legislation and aligned with inclusive hiring principles.

Talent Pipeline & External Partnerships

  • Proactively build diverse talent pipelines through external partnerships, including educational institutions, community organizations, professional associations, and industry networks. 
  • Represent and promote the company at external recruitment events, job fairs, and community initiatives across Ontario. Leverage labour market insights to anticipate talent shortages and recommend innovative sourcing and outreach strategies.

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze recruitment data and labour market trends to inform decision-making and improve outcomes.
  • Develop, track, and report on key talent acquisition metrics and KPIs (e.g., time-to-fill, quality of hire, pipeline health, diversity indicators, recruiter productivity). 
  • Use advanced Excel skills and reporting tools to create dashboards, analyze trends, and communicate insights to stakeholders. Continuously evaluate recruitment processes and systems to identify opportunities for automation, simplification, and improved efficiency. 

Candidate & Hiring Manager Experience

  • Ensure a positive, inclusive, and professional candidate experience that reflects the organization’s values and employer brand. 
  • Act as a trusted advisor to hiring managers, providing guidance on recruitment best practices, market conditions, and inclusive hiring strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma (or equivalent experience), with a focus in Human Resources or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in talent acquisition, including experience with high-volume recruitment environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing recruitment teams, including both professional and high-volume recruiting profiles.
  • Strong expertise in workforce planning, talent pipelining, and external sourcing strategies.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with demonstrated ability to analyze data, build reports, and track recruitment KPIs.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a passion for process improvement, efficiency, and results-driven execution. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Solid understanding of employment legislation and inclusive recruitment practices.
  • Experience using SAP and SuccessFactors Recruiting is an asset.
  • CHRL designation considered an asset.
