This position is part of a unionized bargaining unit. The hourly wage for this position starts at $18.60 and is established in accordance with the collective agreement. Depending on a candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, and prior experience, a higher hourly wage may be offered. Any hourly wage offered for this role, whether starting or higher, will fall within the wage scale established for this position in accordance with the collective agreement.
This is a posting for an existing permanent full-time position.

At Metro, we're looking for a Meat Department Head who can bring energy, expertise, and leadership to our Meat department. What You’ll Do:
- Oversee the daily operations of the meat department.
- Ensure the department is stocked, clean, and well-organized.
- Develop and implement processes for smooth department management.
- Assist with receiving, cutting, packaging, and rotating meat products in both the display area and storage.
- Recruit, train, and supervise meat department staff.
- Create work schedules to ensure adequate staffing for all shifts.
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance, providing feedback and coaching as necessary.
- Manage inventory to maintain proper stock levels without overstocking.
- Ensure all products meet quality and freshness standards, removing expired items.
- Place orders with suppliers and coordinate deliveries efficiently.
- Develop visually appealing meat displays to attract customer interest.
- Execute promotional activities and highlight seasonal products or special offers.
- Ensure accurate labeling and pricing of all products.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and resolving issues.
- Consistently deliver a friendly and helpful shopping experience.
- Manage the department’s budget while controlling expenses.
- Track sales data and adjust inventory levels to align with customer demand.
- Analyze financial performance and take corrective actions when needed.
- Ensure strict adherence to all health and safety regulations.
- Implement and monitor food safety and sanitation practices.
- Perform routine safety inspections and promptly address any issues.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth store operations.
- Communicate with store management about department performance and needs.
- Participate in store meetings and contribute to overall store strategy.
Qualifications:
- Customer service driven
- Able to stock merchandise and create displays
- Good product knowledge and attention to detail
- Able to lift up to 30 to 50 pounds
- Retail experience is considered an asset
- Able to stand for extended periods of time
- Must be available to work flexible shifts which may include nights, weekends and holidays
